A tripartite of hoodwinkers perhaps, but more likely a trio of harmless troubadours, 3 Fools on 3 Stools is adept at delivering thrilling three-part treasures. MTM member Doc Wesson teams up with Curtis Tilton and Jim Richmond to create 3 Fools, which cover a few and write a few for “FABRICATING FAME,” the debut for this configuration of the trio. There’s a Country feel and a Tex Mex undercurrent on the disc as the group performs flawlessly on the Doc Wesson / Larry Joe Taylor (Terlingua Sky) co-write “Rope The Wildest Heart” and kicks it up on the true Texas tune “Come A Little Bit Closer,” written by Wes Farrell and the team of Boyce and Hart (The Monkees Theme, Last Train To Clarksville). The production on this album is some of the best you’ll find in Texas music. The vocal work is stellar and the instrumentation is perfect. The insert jokingly refers to the group winning an award for Vocal Group of the Year. They may not be so very far from wrong as I would venture to say this is a group the Academy of Texas Music will take a good look at for a 2006 award. The bonus track is rather autobiographical and clever. This is one of the best offerings I’ve heard this year. Get it today!
