I do enjoy hearing a band blend all their influences to create an exciting new sound. The Amazing Quitters are adept at calling upon their diverse backgrounds and adding them to this mix of country, folk, and blues rhythms. Arley Blankenship, Mike Byrne, Kent Johnson, Skip Mascorro, and Val Roessling are the Quitters, and their shows are amazing. Their first disc is an eleven-cut live offering, recorded at Gruene Hall. The disc includes mostly covers from their show, but there are a couple of originals as well. This is one of those great take-home discs for Amazing Quitters fans so they can enjoy the music between shows, as are most live albums. The diversity of this release is refreshing, as it plays like a Quitters show. Even live, this quintet is a well-oiled machine, and they do indeed put on a great show, giving crowds a reason to get rowdy. I can't wait to hear a studio album from these talented players.
