B4U
Dan DeGrado (see Dan DeGrado) and Rene Lawrence (see Swank) team up for a fantastic musical journey that spans acoustical jazz, retro feel, and country and rock influences. The duet is B4U and has released “DUSTY CORNERS” with the assistance of bassist and engineer Greg Wietzel of Arsfilia Records who is also an MTM member (see Greg Wietzel). DeGrado is the primary composer with a few co-writes and a couple of Lawrence’s contributions. Also covered is Elias McDaniel’s “Who Do You Love” as the back half of a pseudo-suite on track nine. DeGrado also handles most of the vocal work. His voice is clear and confident, powerful and sure, calming and warm. The entire album has a soft tone that allows you to engage your ‘repeat’ feature with assurance. Lawrence’s performance is classic Lawrence, with his inviting guitar work and a vocal style that keeps you amazed and connected. Lawrence’s ‘over-actor’ voice is rare these days, and more vocalists should study his style. Too many vocalists just open their mouth and speak on key. DeGrado and Lawrence actually sing their parts and that’s refreshing. Hooray for the altos of the world. No sopranos here. Favorite cuts are “Broadway Trucker” and “Grandpa’s Heaven.” Where are you from? Get the disc and find out. Texas music leans away from Nashville on this nine-cut gem. All is well, B4U, all is well.
