This is an outstanding first record. There are 16 cuts and there isn't a clinker among em. Put another way, I would be unwilling to be without any of the 16 in my own collection. Brennen is a very good singer and the musicianship on this collection is just remarkable! As good as she is with fiddle and mandolin, I would love to see her put them down to concentrate on her singing and perhaps to connect with her live audiences, but that request doesn't apply to a recording and she supports herself beautifully here. I particularly love her version of Greg Brown's "The Train Carrying Jimmie Rodgers Home" and of her own "Burlington Northern Line". She's got a couple of songs here that are covered very, very often by almost everyone, it sometimes seems - "Crazy Arms" and "San Antonio Rose" - but Leigh's renditions are indispensable, regardless of plethora of other versions available. One really can't offer higher praise for vocals. |

What stunning musicianship! Brennen's vocals have me mesmorized. I am so honored to have her included on Corinne Roses "Shout Hallelujah" (southeast outlaw recordings) |

The greatest female vocalist to hit Texas in years. Brennen has an amazing voice and talent that is unique and tends to mystify the listener with her youth and versatility. She recently stole the Bluegrass show from all other entertainers at a Bluegrass Festival in Waller, Texas. Editor's note: So you see it's no wonder that
Brennen won the 2005 Female Vocalist of the Year at the Texas Music
Awards! |

Incredible LIVE recreation of traditional Gospel roots from the white cultures of the South as performed on the radio in the early 1900's...a few twists and turns (steel vs. dobro?) and a couple of newer songs, all well done. Excellent vocals, great slap bass. Very Cool! |

Although she had a couple of religious projects release before this collection, this is essentially a debut album and a hugely successful one at that. I don't claim to know whether she will, as her career moves forward, choose religion or mainstream country, but I am praying it will be the latter (That's a joke, son.) She has a terrific voice, and a hardworking performance. She will be a welcome addition to a genre which needs more women who can "bring it" - it, in this case, being a pure country feel to her songs. |

What a GREAT romp thru the heart of roots Gospel music from the Country/Bluegrass/Swing traditions!! This territory has been visited and popularized recently by the "Oh Brother" phenom, but this live performance by Brennen & Band is guttsier and more "alive" with startling instrumentation and vocal performances. |

I am not a person who spends much time listening to bluegrass or country western music. Until now. Brennen's range is infinite and is a real joy to listen to. |

Her covers are a knock-out and her originals fit in well to make a seemless one-two punch. Her CD displays none of the flaws that are typical with a new young artist on a small time label. She can go wherever she wants in music and the cover charge is only going up, so catch her now while she is cheap. |
