Clay DuBose "THESE DAYS" ©2005 Lazy River Records Review by Lucky Boyd San Antonio-born Clay DuBose is striking the fancy of Texas music fans in a big way. His powerful style of blending Rock and Blues influences into Country music is garnering support from coast to coast. DuBose offers a superstar vocal delivery on each track of this twelve cut release. The opening cut is co-penned with fellow MTMer Big John Mills. DuBose uses that track to set the tone for the rest of the disc. Perfectly produced, "THESE DAYS" is a remarkable project that employs some of the best pickers around. "Fork In The Road" is one of the album's best cuts, using multiple influences, non-traditional chord progressions, and some Henry Paul-style harmonies. Some things are done to express artistic freedom, make good on a solemn promise, or to impress a girl. I'm not sure which caused DuBose to include Dylan's "Threw It All Away" on the album, but it was a genius move. The song bookends a terrific disc that is masterful on many levels, making it one of the true treasure releases of the year.
