There’s a reward for time spent promoting an ideal, and David Cline’s reward is all the CD’s he’s going to sell after you read this. With lines like “I’ll bet you a John Deere mower, ain’t no man gonna tie her down” Cline combines a traditional country music charm with a modern production quality to deliver a great collection of tunes. The 2009 release is "BIG SLICK" and is a poker player's dream! A baker's dozen of poker-themed songs, you need not look any further when trying to decide what music to play for your next poker party! His 2006 release is “MY DADDY’S MUSIC” and it’s a ten-cut collection of classics from an era gone by and a few originals that fit the mold. Cline continues to wow his fans with a genuine traditionalism that is rare these days. True to his craft, Cline is a purist, encompassing the best of yesterday and today into a Texas driven sound that will stand the test of time. The 2005 release is “TEXAS HOLD’EM,” playing off a popular theme and paying homage to a favorite pastime of Cline. The title cut is one of the most entertaining tunes I’ve heard all year, blending modern subject matter with traditional country music. Cline covers a couple of classics as duets with his son Bryan on “Ace In The Hole” and long-time friend Debbie White on “If You’ve Got The Money.” Both White and the younger Cline are award-winning performers. A few of the tracks can be found on other David Cline CD’s but there’s a host of new material on this disc making it a great buy. Cline’s 1999 release is “HEART AND SOUL” and includes 14 fabulous cuts, with nine of them penned or co-written by Cline himself. The album also includes greats like “Hello Walls,” “Big Boss Man,” and “Ghost Riders In The Sky.” The highlight of the CD is Cline’s classic country voice as he meanders through well-written songs like the lazy Colorado River flowing toward the Gulf Coast. Entertaining and smooth, this is a great listening disc, and is a mere prelude to the great discs that follow. Cline’s 2001 release is “ANOTHER MAN’S TREASURE” in which he leans more toward the trucking side of country. The disc includes mostly original cuts, but there’s a great rendition of Hank Williams’ “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.” Cline also covers “Everybody Loves Somebody.” I have a special place in my heart for artists who cover Dean Martin songs. This country version of Ken Lane and Irving Taylor’s classic is worth the price of the album. Ole’ Dino would be proud. You’ll love Cline’s original tune, “Lovey Dubby Chubby Hubby” and my favorite cut, “Longhorn Cattle Baron.” Next is Cline’s 2003 release, “BORDER TO BORDER, COAST TO COAST.” This is a maturation for Cline, and was easily his best release prior to his 2004 album. From the opening cut, Cline’s writing and performance talents are showcased in true Texas fashion. Cline pens all but one of the ten cuts, including the two-stepper’s dream, “Small Town Street Dance.” Cline’s 2004 release is “GOOD OLE COUNTRY MUSIC AND WESTERN SWING.” While Cline pens or co-writes six of the ten cuts, this is by far the best production and performance to date. The disc includes yet another great Dean Martin cover as Cline perfectly delivers on Lee Hazlewood’s “Houston.” Cline co-writes and performs with the tremendously talented Liz Foster on “Daddy, I Understand” and delivers a monster performance with his son Bryan Cline on “Move It On Over.” If you like traditional country music done Texas style, I’ve got six albums for you, including Cline's fantastic gospel album.
