While attending Trinity U in S.A. I caught this band's show years back and wrote on it. Now freelance in DFW for four music mags and recently caught the band at Stumpy's Blues Bar in Arlington.  Founder and drummer, Gary Delz, has a new lineup out front with Denzil Smith and Murray Woods playing now.  The fans were waiting when they came up to the stage and went nuts.  I stayed toward the back of the club most of the night and I have to say they were most polite by asking several times during their show if they were too loud for their audience.  Bands usually don't care anything about things such as that, esp., making the crowd happy with courtesy.  This is one well-oiled veteran Texas band.  Murray Woods is an incredible, impeccable guitar slinger who has stepped up in the spotlight in the band.  He is well-known across the SW as the guitarist who toured with Jr. Medlow and the Bad Boys prior to Chris Duarte doing his stint in the act, and Lubbock natives remember the old days of the hometown guitarist rocking many a juke joint.  Bassist Denzil Smith also a Lubbock native, was in the incredible Hub City Rockers before joining up with Jessee Guitar Taylor.  They were doing a series of  shows that were taped for a new release off this tour, and I am glad I was there for one of the nights the tape was rolling.  Expect one hot CD coming out next spring from The Texas Power Trio.

I reviewed this act for my college newspaper while watching their performance in San Antonio.  This is three obviously highly talented musicians who write from their own personal experiences.  In today's scene of college bands playing the same old thrash and all the Cory/Creager/Keen/Pat Jr's out there, it's still nice to know there are bands out there that still know what Rock and Roll and real Blues are, AND how to play it.

We have found the My Texas Music website thru some friends in Waco and found the Power Trio's page.  My wife and I were at the taping of the live CD and to tell you how hot it was cannot be described in words.  The guitar player someone said grew up in Oak Cliff where the Stevie Ray and Jimmy Vaughan were from, and it is very obvious they have that old Guitar Slim sound going on.  The Power  Trio is just three guys is what you have to remember each time you watch them play at a live concert or hear them on the radio.  We have both the live CD and the new Here To Stay CD in our Texas collection.  We also saw them play at the grand opening of the new Harley mega store in Austin last summer and they really rock.
