George Palmer Macias
The latest release from George Palmer Macias is WATER ON TIN - a collection of 12 songs that celebrate life, love, and Texas. According to Stephen Doster, the producer of the CD, "When he (George) sings, I believe. 'Drunk At The Driskill' is meticulous and as haunting as the ghosts that drift through its refrain. A Texas songwriter that can stand with the best." George was born in Houston and started playing music in college in San Marcos with a band called the Bentwood Rockers. He moved to Austin in 1982 and played his first gig opening for Butch Hancock at Emmajoe's. He was Kerrville Newfolk finalist at the 1989 festival. George was a part-time performer until he quit his day job as a CEO for an advertising firm in 2008. He has played with several Austin area bands including the 56 Babies, the Fyre Flys, and fellow MTM members The Regulars, which have held down the Friday happy hour slot at the Saxon Pub since 2004. Joe Ables, the owner of the Saxon Pub, says "As a songwriter, George Macias may be the best kept secret in Austin, if not the world. It won't be a secret much longer." We couldn't agree more!
