After the critically successful release with brother David Lee, the first solo project from Jimmy Kaiser is poised to eclipse his past accomplishments. Studded with a host of great pickers like fellow MTMer Big John Mills, the album is musically solid. The writing is classic Kaiser with lyrics about love and life written in true Texas fashion and perfect for roots radio. Kaiser pens most of the tracks with a few co-writes and covers including MTMer Hayes Carll's "Hwy 87." Kaiser's voice is picture perfect on every cut and the entire sound of the album is exemplary. Masterfully produced and expertly performed, this disc is far superior to the solo debut projects of Green, Morrow, or Creager. I've always been impressed with Kaiser's performance ability and it's refreshing to know that the essence has been captured in this disc. Now here's a tip for you collectors out there. There's a small sound at the beginning of track eleven that will not ever be heard on the radio release cut, nor will it be on the album when it goes to reprint. If you don't get a copy of this disc in its initial pressing, you'll never hear that small, seemingly insignificant, but collector-worthy sound. Even if the sound was intentional, record promoters are most likely going to remove it from the air version and the song is arguably the best radio cut on the disc. This is one of the best discs I've heard in 2005. Jimmy Kaiser doesn't try to polish up his brand of roots-country music but it shines just the same. "I'M GONE" is the title, and a prophetic one, as sales will go. Get your copy today.
