If you're like me, you avoid "live" albums like the plague.  They usually sound tinny and a little off.  They lack the spice, interest and polish of a studio album.  But...this live recording is clear, crisp, and intimate.  It's like having jAm perform your favorites and few new songs right in your living room.  The humor, the bit of a whisper in his voice, the emotional storytelling...are all there - up close, and personal.  You even hear jAm do his famous guitar drumming on "La Bamba" - a feat that always brings thunderous applause at his live shows.  A few of the new songs deserve mention.  "What A Christmas It Was" is jAm at his sensitive, heartfelt, storyteller best.  It brings to life the story of a boy who finds the true meaning of Christmas despite his parent's separation.  "What Good Is I Love You" is another well-crafted story song, albeit darker and more mature in tone that we are used to hearing from jAm.  (It sounds good from you, John Arthur) "I Dare You" is a fun song that always draws applause at live shows.  "The Best Friend That I Ever Had" (bonus track) is enjoyable, lyrical, and features a bilingual verse.  "The Armadillo Song" is not new, but is faster on this CD than previously, much like his live shows, when the guitar is left behind and he flys through the lyrics at breakneck speed.  A remarkable live album.  Just one complaint: That New England audience (the CD was recorded in Maine) needs a little work on their gritos.  Now...if it had been recorded in front of a TEXAS audience...
