Pretty much everything Lloyd Maines touches turns to gold, but you already knew that. What’s fun is discovering the fabulous talent behind those great Maines productions. Here’s one of the finest examples around. Kevin Deal has hit the trifecta (plus one!), releasing four albums produced by Maines. Enough about the production, let’s dig into the music. Kevin Deal’s 1999 release “HONKY TONKS ‘N’ CHURCHES” (Blind Nello) is a twelve cut window to the very soul of Texas music. A little rougher cut than the other two albums, but it’s great to see where an artist’s head is at in the beginning. “KISS ON THE BREEZE” (2000, Blind Nello) is a maturation for Deal as he finds his unique sound and rides it home on twelve cuts of cutting edge Texas gold. Deal’s 2003 release finds him pushing himself to new heights. While it was ease to see it coming, “THE LAWLESS” (Blind Nello) puts Deal at the top of his class. I listened to this one twice just to make sure, and I have no trouble telling you that Pat and Cory can save Kevin Deal a seat at the table. Make it at the head of the table if you don’t mind. These are perhaps the best three albums to come from the same artist in the last fifteen years. Add to that the brand new 2005 release, "RAW DEAL - KEVIN DEAL BAND LIVE". Co-produced by Lloyd Maines and Kevin himself, his live album truly captures the energy of Deal's live performances. We love to see our members put out live productions - it really gives you great insight to their overall talent, and Deal is loaded with it.
