Austin, Texas based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and award-winning songwriter Kit Holmes has spent a lifetime working (her first paying gig came at the age of 13!) in music. She's performed, composed, arranged, produced and engineered for solo artists, bands, festivals, small businesses, trade associations, churches and theater groups across the country. To better understand the many hats this talented woman wears, let's examine each hat separately...
Hat #1 : Songwriter and Composer - Kit began her songwriting career at the age of 9 when she composed a song about her dog, "Patches", complete with ukulele accompaniment! Entering her first songwriting contest in 2004 earned her first "finalist" berth with “Take Me Back” from her debut CD release, ALL I KNOW. That album produced two more award winners: the title track and “Swing Set”. The title track to Kit’s 2007 CD IT'S A NEW DAY captured another writing award and became the theme song for Austin Area Inter-Religious Ministries (AAIM) which promotes peace through understanding that we're all One. This CD has since become a “must-have” for fans of New Thought music around the country. With rave reviews from All About Jazz and Jazz Corner magazines, Kit's 2011 release RETURN TO LOVE was a 54th Annual GRAMMY Award Nominee for Best Pop Vocal Album. Two of the tracks on this CD ("Headed West" and "Fishin', Baseball, Boats n' Beer") were already songwriting award-winners prior to the album's release. "Hold You in the Light" has become a well-known anthem in spiritual circles. In May 2012, Kit came on strong again with a 4th place win in the 7th Annual Songwriter Serenade in Hallettsville, TX. What's next for Kit's ever-growing list of accolades? Stay tuned...
Hat #2 : Musician and Musical Director - Piano and keyboards are where Kit's natural talents as a musical artist are most apparent. After years of session work and playing in both original and cover bands - from jazz to rock and country to musical theater - Kit's vocabulary on the keys is extensive. Vocals run a pretty close second, as do guitar, bass, percussion and just about any other instrument she puts in her hands! Kit possesses that rare talent of being able to hear just a few bars of a song then play along flawlessly. She also has an audiographic memory that allows her to retain and recall (and play) literally thousands of songs and musical phrases at a moment's request (and find the perfect song(s) for every occasion!) Since March of 2011, Kit's been the Music Director at Unity Church of Wimberley, TX where she writes most of the arrangements for the house band and vocal groups.
Hat #3 : Performer - From well-known "listening rooms" and clubs to spiritual centers, conferences, festivals and studios, Kit's gigs have been as diverse as the styles of music she embraces in her writing. Just a sampling of venues: Austin's famed Saxon Pub, Threadgill's and Momo's; Listening rooms The Bugle Boy (La Grange, TX) and Eddie's Attic (Decatur, GA); television appearances Fox's "Good Morning Austin"; Atlanta and Austin Pride Festivals and house concerts across the country. Conference and Spiritual Center featured performances include: Asilomor Conference (2010); Center for Spiritual Living- Seattle, WA; Unity of Las Vegas, NV; Dallas Center for Spiritual Living, Creative Life Center (Spring, TX); Music of the Heart Conference, Posi-Awards; Sound Connections at Unity Village (MO); RSI Minister's Conference (Austin, TX 2007)
Hat #4 : Inspirational Speaker and Spiritual Counselor - “All roads lead to…” As Kit’s musical and personal adventures began to converge, an interesting new path emerged. In 2007, Kit found herself invited to speak, teach and consult not only about songwriting and the music business but also about her journey of personal and spiritual growth. She’s been well-received at places such as Celebration Circle in San Antonio, TX and now presents workshops on Songwriting and Spirituality. In July 2010, Kit received her License as a Religious Science Practitioner and Spiritual Counselor (RScP) through United Centers for Spiritual Living. Her plans for world domination via love and laughter are unfolding beautifully!
Hat #5 : Audio Geek (Engineer) and Producer - Here’s the short version of the tech resume’: Kit has an Associates Degree in Electronic Music Technology and a life-long education in utilizing her amazing set of ears (and perfect pitch). She spent 6 Years of corporate hell as head of Mastering at a CD manufacturing plant outside Atlanta, GA. She opened “The Music Kitchen” mastering and production studio near Athens, GA in 1995 and pursued musical happiness there 'til moving to Texas in 2001. She's the owner of “Kit Holmes Music” and “No Place Like Holmes Publishing” – a music and special events production and publishing company in Austin, Texas. The full "roadshow" EV PA system was added in 2009. Up to 32 channels of exquisite live sound is now available upon request (deep pockets required…). Contact us for a quote!
