Lost John Casner
You'll hear Texas swing and real honky-tonkin' tunes as you meander through this treasure-laden disc from Lost John Casner. "DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH (WHILE I'M DRINKIN') (Spectrum) is a twelve-cut masterpiece of Texas music. Casner pens four of the cuts while covering such greats as Blaze Foley, Danny Sheridan, Mel Tillis, and George Jones. Lost John chimes in with an interesting delivery of John Prine's "Yes I Guess They Oughta Name A Drink After You." Casner assembles an all-star cast for this disc, including Texas swing king Johnny Gimble and Bobby Snell on pedal steel. For my buck, the best song on the disc is Casner's own "When The Money's Gone." The use of traditional swing rhythms and a quasi-big band sound, coupled with obvious country instruments make this a great cut. I was hooked from the opening title cut, and you will be, too.
