Marvin Lane Werth’s long-awaited “YOURS TONIGHT” is finally here. This self-produced five-cut EP is a coming-of-age project for Werth showcasing his vast talents, and serves as evidence of why this Canyon Lake area artist is becoming more in demand around the state. Marvin’s smooth vocal and Buffett-esque rhythms make this a good listen. Werth also offers his 1996 album “OF INNOCENCE LOST” and his crowd-favorite single release “PARTY NAKED.” The former is a great collection of well produced cuts showcasing Werth’s songwriting and diverse performance styles. The latter is a protest project, chronicling the sadness of intervention and oppression imposed upon the simple pleasure of riding an innertube down the Guadalupe River. The single is packaged in a clear plastic bag symbolizing the prospect of playing the CD, packing your clothes into a waterproof bag and taking off down the river. Werth’s intent was obviously two-fold, first to make you laugh, and second to draw attention to how government imposes its will upon the very things we consider to be freedoms. He succeeds at both. A smooth voice, inviting rhythms and confident instrumentation are the signatures of Werth’s offerings. An excellent addition to the Texas music collection.
