If Cab Calloway and John Vandiver spawned an heir it probably wouldn't be handsome, but it might be Moe Hansum. Who is Moe? The Moe Hansum Band is the serendipitous result of some dudes just sittin' around making good music. This Texas brand of blues expresses the serious, the comical, and the feel-good angles of the genre. "POOR BOYS LONG WAY FROM HOME" is a twelve pack of Central Texas favorites including some traditional tunes, some great covers, and a few wonderfully penned originals. The delivery is flawlessly down-home and the production is far above what you might expect from acoustic blues these days. Guitars and dobros dominate this disc and Michael Durbin's vocal work is superb. The CD project is also a joy to browse. This 2004 release is excellent from start to finish making it a must-buy for Texas blues fans. Favorites are the wayward lament "Two Sips Of Water" and the hilarious "Great Big Fanny."
