In every genre of music there are those who spend countless days seeking the formula to the success of certain sounds, all in pursuit of that elusive hit record. In today's popular rock music, look no further than Pilot Radio. Most of the band will admit to being big Counting Crows fans, but a couple of the members mention Fleetwood Mac among their influences, and it's that slant that takes some of the edge off this music and makes it enticing to a wider audience. For that, I say 'good for you.' Pilot Radio's latest release, "ANTIQUES" (Solar Flare Records) is a symphonic-laden picture of perfection, releasing vibes that envelope the listener in a rise-and-fall episode of comfort. This is one of those discs that you can just leave in the player and toss the case. Ricky Young has a more-than-adequate voice that will only get more gripping as he matures. This band is well on their way, touring extensively to promote the new album. A new project in 2003 could be just the ticket to a wildly successful career. If you're a fan of Tom Petty, Counting Crows, or even John Mayer, this is a must-buy.
