& The Whiskey Fever Band
An interesting past, a colorful character, a tradition of music in his family, and a bushel full of talent comprise the one and only Shy Blakeman. His soulful and edgy delivery of country music will make you understand the meaning of ‘roots’ as Blakeman is grounded deeply in the music.
“SOUTHERN ROOTS REVIVAL”

Review by Lucky Boyd
From the opening sermon, this disc kicks up dust in revival fashion with a southern sound that is truly Shy Blakeman. The wild containment continues for Blakeman as he wanders perfectly through eleven dynamic cuts. Co-produced by MTMer Big John Mills, who also performs on the album, the disc makes a statement on several levels. Blakeman’s pseudo-Tex-a-reggae rendition of “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” is a crowd favorite and remains quite a contrast to the raucous “Going Back To Texas.” There are some great radio possibilities like “Gettin’ By” that perpetuate the marriage between rock and country music. Shy Blakeman once again puts the pedal to the metal and gives us a heart-pounding album that really needs no revival. Get it today!

Each brief interlude will leave you breathlessly anticipating the next track on “DOWNTOWN WOMEN,” Blakeman’s 2003 release. The high energy approach to Shy’s brand of country is uplifting and contagious. There’s much that could be told about Blakeman’s family, his past, and his brushes with fame. We’ll leave that to his full bio, found on his website, but for now, just know that the music is solid, the writing is sound, the pickers are perfect, and the guests include Miranda Lambert, Gary P. Nunn, and Rusty Wier. Enjoy the music, but make sure you see a Shy Blakeman show when The Whiskey Fever Band comes to town. It’s worth it. For now, have a listen, and get the disc.
