Sultry Soultree weighs in with nine cuts of easy styled tunes on their 2003 self-titled debut album led by crooner Susan Crandall. Crandall’s voice is comfortable and familiar with all the power needed to deliver truly soulful performances across genre lines. The sometimes-jazzy, sometimes-bluesy folk performances are wrapped around poignant lyrics and creative instrumentation. Crandall can the pull the reins back for the softer side when necessary, and can belt the hard stuff when it’s called for.
