Texas Renegade “AFTER EVERYTHING” ©2007 (Socket Dog Music) Review by Jinelle Boyd It’s not often you hear a project that is so flawless in just about every way, that words are hard to come by. “Holy crap” are the first two words that came to mind, but I know I need to elaborate, so I’ll try. The clarity of the recording is amazing, Andy Bertelsen’s vocals are of superstar quality, and Kasey Klepfer’s kickin’ harmonica, Tyson Carver’s perfectly peppered mandolin and harmony, Eli Carver’s groovin’ bass, and Matt Pigg’s steady and powerful beat all combine with so many other elements to make this sophomore project a real force to be reckoned with. Texas musicians take notice – if you want a hit song, BEG Bertelsen to co-write with you…he was born with an incredible sense of timing and descriptiveness that make his music leap out of the CD player and into your subconscious, long after the music stops. This is such a fantastic group of musicians who obviously respect one another’s talents – if they keep their noses to the grindstone and their sweet dispositions in check, the sky is most certainly the limit. One of the best albums I’ve heard this year…”AFTER EVERYTHING” is the real deal, and yeah I’ll say it, you’re missing out if you don’t own this CD – it would be a huge mistake not to be on the ground floor to support a band that will be taking the Texas music world by storm in the near future. Texas Renegade Band “3AM” ©2004 (Socket Dog Music) Review by Lucky Boyd Many have spoken up in an attempt to define Texas music as a melting pot of several styles of music. I like to see it as new music sounds that have been harvested from a multitude of influences. Either way, wrap your ears around the Texas Renegade Band and you’ll hear some cross-genre deliveries and a host of influences. Andy Bertelsen’s vocals are prime for country, alternative rock, or anything in between. Guess what! It’s that ‘in between’ that makes this such a dynamite album. Their 2004 debut “3AM” is a Jason Allen production and features a host of masterful pickers. I know Kasey Klepfer gets tired of hearing it, but on a few songs, there’s a hint of Blues Travelers influence. It enhances this country-rock release beautifully. One of the great surprises of the album is that it has a 72 minute running time. Fans will love that the band used all the available space on the disc for music, as most replicated music discs will only hold 74 minutes. Thanks guys for not holding out on us. The production and instrumentation is exceptional, and Bertelsen’s voice is award worthy. Most of the songs are a little lengthy for mainstream airplay, but are prime for the indie radio stations.
