The Woods “RAIN ON MY PARADE” ©2006 Independently released Review by Lucky Boyd Good advice about releasing albums is to always let the outside of your package tell the consumer what kind of music they will find inside. I didn’t meet the Woods in time to give them this advice, else the outside of the disc would have somehow reflected the treasure that awaits inside. Therein lies the only flaw I can find with this record. Jeremy Todd has an astonishing voice for Texas dirt music and each cut is a true gem. The band is fine on their own, but the crew of additional pickers on the album bring the project vision to life and add an individuality that conveys the band’s Texan attitude. The band shows off their influences from early rock to Southern rock to modern rock to… well, rock. Deep seeded country roots are evident in some of the subject matter and the writing is solid throughout. This music is at home coming from a bar stage, a festival concert, or your CD player. This band has been playing together for a decade so you won’t find any sloppy attempts to hit the groove. If they’re ready to run, this album is enough to get Texas music fans receptive to their rise. My message to the band: To steal a line from Billy Idol, “I’m gonna tell those record company guys about you.” And I will. Great album, guys. Be proud.
