Along with the incomparable Herb Remington of Bob Will's steel guitar fame, Karl A. Caillouet, Billy Curtis, and Mike Stroup are names you definitely know as supporters and pickers on albums from a long list of Texas artists. Herb, a member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, played with the Bob Wills and his Texas Playboy's from 1946 - 1951. Karl has mixed or produced more CDs than I can count, and Billy and Mike are peppered all across the state on album after album, many of which appear on this website. Now add in the fabulous Chuck Crow, the incredible Jimmy Calhoun, the insurmountable Ron Ohendalski, and you've got the Wild River Band. Their 2003 release is "REQUESTS Volume Two" and it's a wonderful collection of Western swing from Texas. It includes classics like "Panhandle Rag" and "It's Four In The Morning" and even songs that younger audiences will remember, such as "Right Or Wrong." My favorite cut is "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" which combines sultry Texas blues and true Western swing in a signature offering from the band. Well, anyway, these guys make my list of favorite traditional Texas swing bands and this album is the best traditional Western swing project I've heard this year. Own it today for only $13.99!
