I really enjoy seeing youngsters get involved in music. Austin Bello and Caleb Turman got involved early and started playing guitars together at age twelve. Just a few short years later, here they are, with Johnny McAnally on drums and Drew Beilman on bass. The quartet is committed to an upbeat acoustic rock sound, so much so that the band’s name is simply Committed. Their self-titled EP has five excellent examples of the band’s enthusiasm and energy. Bello and Turman handle the songwriting and vocal work while giving a serious workout to acoustic guitars and the occasional mandolin. The band’s sound is contemporary, and while I wouldn’t say they have a truly unique sound yet, the makings are there for finding their place in today’s music. You’ll hear acoustic rock with an alternative rock feel and there’s one aspect of the music that makes it some of the best I’ve heard this year. The lyrics are positive, upbeat, and devoid of hatred and violence. Good for you, guys! I saw this band live recently and it was nice to see that they have a ton of family support. My advice to the band: Keep plugging away and you’ll do just fine. For music fans, here’s another example of the far-reaching appeal of Texas-influenced tunes. Now Committed brings us a fantastic debut, "Falling Is Faster". Expertly produced by Paul Osborn, this musical offering could rival so much of the music heard today on popular radio. What amazes me is that for their short time on Earth, these guys have insights that most of us could only hope to have. The songwriting is clever, unique, and full of meaning. These kids are definitely going places - give a listen to the title track - hints of violin add just the right mood. "Sometimes I" is a beautifully written and performed tune that makes you realize these guys are way ahead of their years. So give a listen, and become the next Committed fan.
