Review by Lucky Boyd, co-founder MyTexasMusic
Quincy Harper has taken my advice, without even receiving it. I counsel artists to find their own ‘sound’ and sing every song with ‘stroke’ as a painter contacts the canvas. Too many artists simply open their mouth, blow air, and see what happens. Quincy Harper steps up to each song like a homerun slugger approaches the batter’s box, with purpose and fully armed with the tools to get the job done. Harper’s slight rasp in his voice doesn’t hurt either, giving him a distinctive sound that blurs the lines between today’s popular genres. Quincy Harper and Boyd Harper split the songwriting duties on “HOLE IN HE WALL,” and each is adept, while together they’re somewhat synergistic. Harper’s delivery is indeed the highlight of this, his debut offering, but if there’s a second superstar on board it has to be Spencer Starnes, whose musical vision for this project make it one of the most intriguing orchestrations of the year. Every picker is solid and the project is rock-solid, from engineering to master. It won’t take much prodding for Harper to become the next big thing in Texas music. This is a bandwagon worth jumping on.
